A big upgrade to sharing of components and strategies has been released

Dear All,

We released a completely revamped sharing and collaboration framework. At the heart of it it's still the "group" concept: you share by creating a group and adding people to the group. But it is now much more usable since you can just use the component in the group (no need to make a copy).

You can read about it here.

Here are some use cases:

  • Create a set of formulas and share them with a group of users

  • Create a screen with custom ranking and universe, and share it in a group. all group members will be able to run it.

  • Share a strategy in a group. Group members will be able to invest in it using a linked account.

Still more work to do. For example right now the shared components can only be modified by the owner.

We think collaboration is key for P123. By allowing users to collaborate and help each other it will reduce cancellations. Let us know your vision for a more collaborative P123.

Cheers

Really liking it so far. Very easy to see group shared books, simulations and live strategies with the folder designated for that on the regular book and strategy pages. No going back and forth to Group pages. Nice

Hi Marco,

Do all users need to be P123 paid subscribers? I have been thinking about sharing my strategies with family and colleagues. This may provide a way, but I am not sure if they want to pay full boat to access what I am accessing with an Ultimate subscription. Thanks!

Looks like it's possible! But it was not intentional

This is how:

  1. Share a Live Strategy from your Research section
  2. Invite the free user to the group.
  3. The free user accepts the group invitation.
  4. Free user can then create a strategy in the Manage section that follows your strategy

Please note that this sharing of strategies (or accounts) is something we want to formally add, and make it a lot simpler to use for the people you share it with. It's quite convoluted now.

It will be a "follower" P123 account for maybe $10/mo. But for now, it's free.

Hi Marco,

Whether unintentional or serendipity, this is great!

I spoke too soon. While it lets you get the recommendations, it fails when you try to commit with this confusing error:

'"Only Designer Models or P123 Strategies can be used as assets"

Should be an easy fix

Any thoughts for adding 2 small features to this?

  1. Folders for organizing all the shared assets
  2. Ability to delete old and defunct groups

I'm not sure what #1 means, but currently each resource must be individually configured to be sharable, which is time-consuming when dealing with many items.

Proposed feature: Add support for "sharable folders" where:

  • Any resource placed in a sharable folder automatically inherits the folder's sharing permissions
  • Users can configure sharing settings once at the folder level
  • All current and future contents of the folder become sharable without additional configuration

Use case example: To share 100 formulas, a user would:

  1. Create a folder with sharing enabled
  2. Group move all 100 formulas into this folder
  3. All formulas automatically become sharable with the same permissions as the folder

Benefits:

  • Eliminates repetitive manual configuration
  • Simplifies bulk sharing operations
  • Makes permission management more efficient
  • Ensures consistent sharing settings across related resources

Folders for organizing. So right now if you open up the main folder of the shared group (e.g. simulated strategies), you get a big list of simulations. With a firm, you can have 100+ shared simulations very quickly. And it becomes a disorganized mess. Would be nice if there was some way to separate and sort them inside folders...even just for the group instead of a massive list.

We have folders within groups for enterprise accounts only at them moment

We'll enable folders in any group, not just for enterprises.

Thanks

PS. We are all in with the sharing/collaboration concept. More to come in other areas. Just look what it has accomplished for Google. Everybody is using drive and google docs.
