Clarification on Make Current and rebalance for EU strategies

Hi guys, I would like some help as I feel a bit lost….

I have two doubts on which I am seeking some clarifications…

I am based in EU, Rome time zone. I trade US and EU strategies with P123.

All my live strats are set as Automatic rebalance, some weekly, other every X weeks rebal.

EU strats are set as Early rebalance, Us no early.

I normally receive the rebalance email on monday (eu time):

-at 6.15am for european strategies

-at 11.45 am for Us strategies.

EU strategies (early rebal) the emails says “rebalance notice for XX” and XX is Sunday

US strategies (no early rebal) the emails says “rebalance notice for XX” and XX is Monday

In fact if I check the strats i see:

for an EU strat:

and for a US strat:

Does it all make sense to you? I mean.. sunday rebalance is because it’s US CDT Sunday, correct?

It matches with the schedule on system status page…

If I do not set EU strategies at EARLY I will receive the rebalance after the EU markets open right? So this explain the date for last rebal on Sunday. Correct?

The other question is about the manual rebal and the button Make Current and the day of the week for rebalance.

All my strategies are in Auto and rebal is on sun/mon has I explained before. But what if I create a strategy live on Wednesday and put it to manual? Will the expected rebalance stay on Wed every week?

I realized the day of the rebalance for weekly strategies can be any day of the week.

How is this set/decided? Is the button Make Current that changes the day of the week rebalance?

I clicked Make Current on on eof my strategies and the rebal day changed to that day and the next proposed rebal sync on that day of the week.

So with make current I could decide to rebalance my weekly strategies on, let’s say, Wednesday? Is this correct in any method (Auto, recommend, manual)?

what if, by mistake, I change the day and want to restore it? I have to click on make current on the day I want to rebalance? For EU starts will it be Monday or Sunday?

Sorry for the long and maybe confused topic, I hope someone has a clear view and answer that maybe can help others.

I found previous topics but not 100% clear.

Hi guys, were my questions too esoteric?

I have a similar issue, so I try to put it in simpler words.

I’m about to go live with a new strategy next Monday.
The strategy is based entirely on European assets (the Stoxx600 universe), and I want the rebalancing to occur every 4 weeks on Monday morning.

I’m based in Europe (CET).

To make sure the rebalance cycle is correctly anchored to Monday:

  • When should I put the strategy live?

  • Sunday?

  • Saturday?

  • Or directly on Monday before the European market opens?

I’m a bit confused about how P123 determines the rebalance weekday for European strategies, especially given US/CDT timing and Early Rebalance settings, and, even more importantly, when I receive the rebalancing info.

Thanks a lot for the clarification.

Vince

Automatic Rebalance timing

Your observations are correct. Automatic Rebalance runs on a fixed schedule regardless of when a strategy was created or last manually touched:

  • Early rebalance starts around Sunday 11:00 PM CST/CDT → this is Monday 6:00 AM CET/CEST, which is why your EU strategies show Sunday as the rebalance date (it's still Sunday in US time)
  • Late rebalance starts around Monday 4:30 AM CST/CDT → this is Monday 11:30 AM CET/CEST, which matches what you see for your US strategies

The small timing differences you may occasionally notice are due to the US and EU observing Daylight Saving Time on different dates each year.

Make Current has no impact on Automatic Rebalance aside from setting the Next Rebalance date. If a rebalance is skipped or delayed for any reason, Automatic Rebalance will automatically realign the Next Rebalance date on the Sunday/Monday following the updated date.

Manual Rebalance and Make Current

For Manual Rebalance strategies, the behavior is different. Every time you commit a rebalance or click Make Current, P123 updates the Next Rebalance date relative to the calendar date that action was performed. So if you click Make Current on a Wednesday, your weekly strategy will shift to rebalancing on Wednesdays going forward.

This means the weekday of rebalance is entirely in your hands, which is flexible but also requires attention. If the weekday drifts to the wrong day by mistake, simply click Make Current on the correct day to reset it. Again, because it is all managed manually, it's the user's responsibility to track what strategies are due for rebalance and whether the weekday is wrong.

Since there's no automatic correction with Manual Rebalance, it's worth periodically checking that your strategies are due on the day you expect.
