Enable trading in Canada and Europe for Interactive Brokers

Would it help if I increase my pledge?

Dear Santa,

I've been good this year -- or at least, so I've been told. Please no coal, as this year has already been challenging enough for factor-based investing in the US. All I want for Christmas this year is IBKR-linked trading for Canada and Europe.

Sorry for the delay. I know the feeling bc I hate trading with IB website/workstation. In fact I hate all my other brokerage accounts interfaces too: etrade and schwab (if you love yours please elaborate on what you love/hate).

With few more refinements, and more broker options, I still believe our Manage interface can become something: a refreshing way to trade multiple accounts for a lot of people, which in turn could bring us new leads for our research products.

In any event, we got some breathing room now that AI v1.0 and v1.1 has been released. I will be pushing to get it done in January.

Any updates on this gem? My membership renewal period is at end of the month and I would love to upgrade from Screener to Ultimate if I can finally also automate EU trades.

Very happy this is finally getting takled!

Marco,

While you are working on the manage function, can you consider my comments. For Live Sims that are not fully invested ( and over time that have varying levels of cash), it doesn't work well at all. As Yuval suggested you have to manually add/ reduce cash.

I was thinking the Manage menu could look something like this perhaps. A few of the portfolios(strategies) I use vary the amount invested over time (besides P123 strategies), so it covers this as well. Performance could also more accurately calculated for each strategy also I assume.
Hopefully you can consider this idea when you visit improving the manage function.

Looking forward to this release

Do we have an update on the progress or is there a scheduled release cycle? I saw comments here and there about the intregration but a brief info when we can expect changes would be greatly appreciated.

On the site note, I have also already upgraded from Scanner to the Ultimate Version just because of this feature being implemented. Cannot wait to see it in action!

I'm happy to report that this morning I was able to buy Ferrari in the Milan exchange in our IB test accounts. I simply sent a market order for RACE:ITA from P123.

IB in Europe wants exchange level FIGIs, which is the most granular of the FIGIs. Our set up is more of a regional identifier (ticker + country). We need to run more tests with stocks in Europe that have multiple listings per country.

Thanks

Thanks for the Update Marco. How is the setup going with Canada?

We have to switch to FIGI identifiers mainly for Europe, and we're still having issues. Talking to IB tomorrow.

Hello Marco,

first, thanks a lot for the efforts bringing P123 to a larger audience. As Canada has (more or less) been activated to provide trades via the API, is there any timeline for the EU market? Given the recent market volatility, I would love to move my automated portfolio to EU focused strategies.

Marco,

Has the switch to FIGI identifiers completed for Europe?

The problem in Europe is reconciliation. We have been able to send orders there with FIGI, but the reconciliation data we get via FIX only has ticker and currency, which is not enough to map to a precise issue. But there are other problems using FIX to get account updates. IB extended FIX to receive account updates, but it's a bit of a hack, and not a scalable solution.

Long story short, FIGI is not the real problem. We need to switch how we do account reconciliation using a different method they provide: pulling the data from an ftp server. It's finally all set up and we should be able to start using it.

ok, I just tried to trade EU stocks and got "Only USA and CAN stocks are currently supported"

right, it's only enabled for our accounts at the moment for testing.

Hello Marco,

do you already have a timeline when testing will conclude?

Thanks a lot

Wanted to check in on this.

Anything a happy P123 user can do to make the implementation go faster?

Best,

Victor

I would really appreciate some feedback on the implementation in Europe. It has been more than 1 1/2 months since the last communication.

It's coming along. We finally got what we needed from IB about 1.5 weeks ago after endless back and forth. All they had to do is configure an ftp site where we can pull in account info that has FIGIs. Something they have done thousands of times.
