GICS vs RBICS

I haven’t been keeping up with the threads. Has there been a change where GICS is no longer supported? I know there was a move to RBICS and GICS codes were converted to RBICS. But in the last few weeks I have noticed sectors sneaking in that shouldn’t be there. Has anyone else noticed this?

There hasn’t been a recent change. Perhaps you can give specific examples of what you’re noticing?

I had a model that only allowed 3 sectors. gics(35,45,50)
But stocks were being included that were otherwise. I can’t seem to find a way to show the GICS codes for some reason. But here are some of the stocks it was allowing in. mgm, eex, cphc, qipt, nl, hson, rgp

I didn’t go through all of these one by one. MGM definitely didn’t seem right though.

Because you are not a Compustat subscriber, you cannot see the GICS codes for these companies, and our migration does not take into account the GICS codes of the companies in question. Instead, it looks at the RBICS codes and then classifies those codes into an approximation of the GICS code.

I suggest that you migrate your system to RBICS. Not only is it a superior classification system, in my opinion, but it fits exactly with the data that you're getting. You can find all the RBICS documentation in the reference.
