Let's spread the word of P123!

Hi Guys… Been a while since I have posted here but I am still a active member. I have found some great sites where we can join in a group and compete against other people and prove that P123 beats all the competition.

If you want to join, the links are below:

Marketocracy:

Let me know what you think!

Shhhhh…

You just want to keep P123 all to ourselves don’t you?? I thought it was a good idea too but I started to feel the more input we have here, the longer the site will last and the better we become. Why Shhhh?

Here is my port on Marketocracy that uses P123

Hi Bompus,

My understanding is that hedge funds don’t give away their secrets… and I don’t want to give away mine (er, ours)! I’d rather Marco & Co. keep making this site better, thus making us more returns, and then he will be entitled to more fees!

Shhh…

Secrets or not, I can’t imagine Marco would turn down the additional revenue stream and frankly I’ve love to see more wallets here to help him pay his overhead (and perhaps reduce my future overhead.)

Regarding promotion, I have been blogging about a (non-public) portfolio I started back in February based on an enhanced Balanced4 ranking system.

I know of at least one other P123er who has been blogging about his P123-generated portfolios for a lot longer than I have been.

Also, on my “To Do” list for my blog is to talk a little bit about the Portfolio123 approach, with copious links and some anecdotal testimonial information. It is not a difficult product to sell. My hunch is that the biggest barrier to adoption is the time and effort (along with the associated learning curve) that new members are willing to invest.

A question for budonk and ob1left and bl82: are your Marketocracy/ P123 ports actual real money ports? Or is it play money? As it has always been my opinion that you will not get the same returns with real cash as you get on a simulated hypothetical portfolio this is of interest! This brings up another point about the public portfolio section of this website. Is it only being used by members who are merely ‘walking forward a sim’ in real time, or can we rely on some of these stats to be real? My guess is 80% are left to walk forward automatically and are no better than pseudo sims and should be taken with a grain of salt.

jpkernot,

that marketocracy port for the most part is a mirror of my real returns. give or take 8%

a few differences,

When we are in a down market and I go into cash in my real portfolio, I cannot do that with marketocracy or else i’d be breaking one of their eligibility rules for ranking. So when we had that down turn at the end of February I liquidated all my positions in my real port but only went into 30% cash in marketocracy. Because of this, leaving me 70% invested, I recovered quicker from that downturn then I did in my real portfolio.

Good to know its real! That’s interesting that you are layering market timing into the P123 port. I have been playing with some kind of market timing to avoid downturns in P123 as has been suggested elsewhere, but have really come to the conclusion that long term returns are hindered by arbitrary movements in and out of the market. After all, I can’t time the property market and after many years have come to the conclusion that trying to time the stockmarket relies on luck more tha anything else. What is certain is that - so long as you are diversified adequately - being out of the market on only a few major days a year can cause a big negative hit in long term performance.

good point jpkernot,

Although I am probably younger than the majority of P123 users so I have a large portion of my investment portfolio invested in P123 stocks. I sleep better at night sitting on cash in a down market.
