I just noted that a screener has been included in 123. I find this to be a very useful tool. However I am having trouble with it with respect to using the 123 ranking as part of the screening.
There is a box that is labled “Include ranks from” and then what looks like a selection box with the words “None Selected”. When I check the box and then try to selct a ranking system, nothing happens. When I try to use a rule that involves ranking, I get a message that states that I must specify a ranking system.
There are also for public use screens that have been set up by others that haave a rule relating to ranking. When I try to use them I get a message stating that I must specify a ranking system.
Would appreciate help on this.
As another issue. Is it possible to change the data output. The screens I get all have the same data being presented in coumns whith headings such as Last, MktCap, Yield, ROR% etc. Is it possible for me to tailor these columns with other information such as PEG or other data that might be on your database?
It must be another problem re(getting pop ups on the stock screener). I removed the software that I have that stops ad pop-ups. I dont see anything in Microsoft explorer that stops pop-up. And in other parts of 123 I can get (and have always gotten) pop-ups with no problems. For examlple, I can change the rating system when rating individual stocks using the pop up and I can copy setting for an existing portfolio or simulation with the pop up with no problem. I notice when I click on the box to select a ranking system (in simulations) that there is a little delay, then where the cursor is there is superimposed a small little letter “i” then the screen goes blank momentarily and I have the screen back with the box “include ranks from” unchecked.
Could there be another reason why I am not getting the pop ups?
Did you click the “…” button to select a ranking system? When you click that small button located right before “None Selected”, a pop up window shold appear and you can select ranking system from it. The check box will be checked automatically after you selected a ranking system.
Yes I did click the button just to the left of the words “none selected”. After closer examination, upon clicking this button I momentarily get a very small icon beside my cursor that shows a red exclamation mark, not the letter “i” as I first said. Then the screen momentarily disapears and comes back to its original form with the cursor as normal.
The screen disapears because it is reloaded with the new setting (ranking system). I tried on different computers and different browers, but did not see anything wrong. I think your problem is IE or other software configuration related. My suggestion is to try on different computer to see if this problem is consistent.
You are right. The good news is, I tried it on another computer running windows 98 and can get the ranks screen to come up and I can use it.
However the bad news is, another problem came up.When I tried to use some of the screens that were availible either from 123 or from the community in setting up the rules for my screen criteria, this would not come up on my second computer. I could however set up my own rules and specify the ranking system that I wanted to use and then it would work fine. My first computer would give me the comunity or the 123 rules with no problem but would not let me set up the ranking system.
I am completely baffled at this one. I wonder if anyone else has dealt with this problem? What could it be in Windowe IE that could be doing this?
I experienced that trouble the first time I tried using the screener but it turned out to be a pop up stopper on my system. It works fine with the stopper disabled. Just a thought. Good luck.
What I mean is, when I tried to start the 123Screen titled CANSLIM, the screen criteria would come would come up (with a title at the top of the page "Screen:CANSLIM) without the five rules that would be there on my first comlputer. For examlple the CANSLIM second rule is “ShsOutMR.25”. I could establish the Ranking method that I wanted to use. When I ran the screen I would get a list of over 7000 stocks with the rank listed. Apparently,None of the rules would be used in forming the list which would be logical.
Later today I will make another search for a pop up stopper on my first comlputer that I can supress.
I never was able to find anything that was blocking the pop up.
After a couple of days of looking for a pop up blocker, I finally was able to develop a “work around” for the problem. Here is what I do:
Go to the “welcome screen” and put in a symbol of a stock in the “rank analysis” box and press go.
On the Rank analysis screen press the “change button” to get the pop up with the various ranking systems in a secondary window.
Now switch the main window to the screener function and establish the list of rules you want to use with the screening function. Then click on the box beside the words (“none selected” and the ranking pop up box will appear. Click on the ranking system that you want to use and the screener will adopt the rule that you selected.
Hit run and the screener will function. You can save it with the run function included if you like the results.
Note-Back in step 3, you can select any ranking system that you want except the one that is used in the welcome screen ranking system. For example if you want to use balanced 4 in the screening you would be sure that the system used in the welcome system is anything but balanced 4.
