web workflow or API endpoint that creates/saves a new private simulated strategy

n the new Stock Simulated Strategy wizard, the visible persistence action is Run Simulation. Is there a supported web workflow or API endpoint that creates/saves a new private simulated strategy without running it or returning performance, holdings, transactions, ranks, or other security-level output?

How can an account create a new private simulated-strategy shell without initially running it

We know that POST /strategy/{id}/trading-system can configure an existing strategy ID. We also tested the documented POST /strategy/{id}/copy route with two public simulation IDs whose /trading-system configurations were readable; both copy attempts returned HTTP 404. The account has no existing owned simulation that can serve as the source. If new-object creation is intentionally web-only, can an empty private strategy be saved first and then configured through that endpoint without triggering a simulation? Alternatively, is there an account-accessible blank strategy ID intended for /copy?

No, I don’t believe it’s possible to create a new Live Strategy or Simulation without running it first. A strategy ultimately needs to generate a portfolio with holdings.

However, there’s an easy way to get started by using an existing strategy as a template:

  1. Go to Research → Live Strategies and open the P123 Strategies folder. It contains several predefined strategies for both stocks and ETFs.
  2. Pick the one closest to what you want to accomplish and save a copy.
  3. Modify the settings and rules to suit your needs.

This gives you a starting point for experimenting with different design choices without building a strategy from scratch. Once the copy is saved, it has its own strategy ID, which you can then configure through POST /strategy/{id}/trading-system.
