Good newsletters / sites?

Hi,

Just wondering if people wanted to share any semi-regular sites / memos / newsletters they read for good, hi quality opinions on the markets.

For example. Here’s one I always read when he has a new memo:

 1. http://www.oaktreecapital.com/memo.aspx

Howard Marks is founder of Oaktree, probably, one of, if not the highest, reputation distressed debt and distressed asset investing hedge fund. Was ‘hired’ by government for TARP work, manages money for States, top endowments, sovereign wealth funds, etc. Very good, long-term track record. And simple, clear ‘memo’s’ on his opinions on markets.

There are a few others I go to. But…might be a worthwhile thread. Just the ‘top’ places you read. Ideally, under a few pages each time. Ideally semi-regular new updates.

Best,
Tom

I am a convert to this guy http://oldprof.typepad.com/ . Heard about him from on here.

My favorites:

I’ll second the recommendation of Mebane Faber. He’s very good, and in fact has a couple sites, include The Idea Farm.

Others:

www.abnormalreturns.com (Abnormal Returns, great site with a terrible brand name. Abnormal? Where’s Marty Feldman when we need him?)
http://www.ritholtz.com/blog/ (The Big Picture)

Both do a good job of finding interesting, relevant investment research, with a heavy emphasis on the process of sound investing (as opposed to investing by judgement). One nitpick - Barry Ritholtz of The Big Picture periodically (and correctly) warns investors against dwelling too much on the political landscape, and yet can’t seem to help himself in weighing in on the political debate, with a decided point of view. You’ll either love it or hate it. Personally I think his investment philosophy is right-on and that he would be best served to create a separate political blog where he can pontificate to his heart’s content.

I’m surprised that no one mentioned Turnkey Analyst

Yes, Turnkey Analyst is another good one. Wes Gray does some really good work.

Also CXO Advisory puts out some very good research, and they monitor other cutting-edge research, some of which requires a subscription to access.

I regularly read the Bogleheads forum. While the main message advocates index investing, there are often high-quality article links or discussions. I have learned a lot about asset allocation and tax strategies on the site.

I also can suggest Ned Davis Research. I believe you can get access if you are a Fidelity customer.

I will add this site. A posting relating to p/e’s jogged the memory.
