Upcoming Pricing Updates — Consistent Discounts & Easier Access

Hi All,
Over the past 6 months, Portfolio123 has launched 7 powerful new features including 45 Pre-Build Charts, Strategy Api, AI Factor Upgrades, Latest vs Historical Rankings, Sharing & Group Functions, 2 New Formulas & IBKR Europe.
Now we’re shifting focus to improving the pricing experience, with clearer, more consistent discounts, easier access to pricing, and a structure that’s more predictable and easier to compare across plans.
We’re sharing this in advance because we value your input and want to give you a clear heads-up before any changes take effect.

What’s Changing?
1) Streamlined Pricing & Smarter Discounts

  • Second region add-on: Now just 40% of the first region price and the same annual discounts apply
  • Retail Plans: 3 months free with annual billing (28% savings)
  • Pro Plans: 2 months free with annual billing (23% savings)

We’ve used the current annual plans as the baseline and applied the new discounts consistently. As a result:

  • Many monthly plans will decrease, with Retail Screener plans saving up to 35%
  • A few plans will see small adjustments, including minor increases of up to 8%

2) Public Pricing Pages (No Sign-In Required)
Pricing pages will soon be viewable without logging in, making it easier to explore, compare, and revisit pricing any time.

3) Redesigned Plan Pages & User Segmentation
We’re improving the subscription experience with:

  • Easier Non-Professional vs. Professional selection
  • Clearer comparison of plan benefits
  • A more visible Free Tier to help new users get started

Rollout Timeline
We’re in final development, and this is a pre-launch announcement. We’ll be sharing the updated pricing tables in a follow-up post.
Once launched, the updated pricing will go live first for new sign-ups. Existing users will have at least 1 month to review and adjust before accounts are automatically transitioned to the new structure.
Thanks again for being part of the Portfolio123 community and as always, we welcome your feedback.

Hello,

I noticed that a few plans will see small adjustments, including minor increases of up to 8%. Could you clarify which plans will be affected?

I ask because an 8% increase on a month low plan subscription seems more affordable than moving to a higher-tier plan, such as the Ultimate plan.

Thank you so much for the development of this platform—I really appreciate your work!

Thanks for the heads-up. Appreciate it.

Actually, I don’t use any of those features.
I feel like I’m paying for many things I don’t really use, so having more customized plans would be very welcome.

By the way, what are the “2 New Formulas”?

Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I completely understand where you’re coming from. We know that not everyone uses every feature, which is why one of our goals with the pricing updates is to make things clearer, more consistent, and easier to compare.

At the same time, we see real value in offering a wide range of features, because having more tools gives users more ways to be successful in the market. We can certainly do better in showcasing the value of these tools and helping users discover how they can benefit from them. Improving education and guidance is something we’re actively looking at.

The two new functions are:

We truly appreciate your feedback.

Just a Historical Perspective

Back in the early days, P123 had limited resources, and the forum often felt like a place where users competed for those scarce resources. Different “camps” emerged—each with valid viewpoints—but the limitations made it a zero-sum game at times. Debates would break out over which features should be prioritized, and everyone had to lobby for their preferred tools or methods.

Then came the downloads—and with them, freedom.

Do your own thing, as my generation used to say. But just as importantly, let others pursue their own methods.

Maybe I dislike neural nets and love slicing universes with mod(). But honestly, who cares what I think about that—because with the downloads and API, people can follow their own path. The newer AI/ML tools also opened doors for those without a lot of prior experience to start exploring. That’s a win too.

So I love P123, and I’m not even sure what new features I’d need to ask for. Maybe cheaper downloads—but I’m not unhappy with the pricing as it stands.

I appreciate the new features but where possible P123 should give us the autonomy to build some of our own feature—without a feature request.

The AI/ML is already powerful but there might be ways to free up or expose some of the code in the AI/ML module, for example—allowing people to follow their own ideas within the AI/ML. I think when the LLM becomes available it could possible make some calculations on some of the data—giving specific information a user is interested in without a feature request.

Maybe that is what the downloads and API are for. I do have the freedom there and I appreciate it: every day.

Great to hear the additional regions will be even more affordable. Thanks Filip. Maybe I can provide my feedback once we actually have the tables

I am hoping for an option to keep my current level (and features) at no price increase, because I had a large price increase last year (~20%), and a large increase in previous years. Also I am happy that many of my old-fashioned non-AI (natural intelligence = NI ?) trading strategies are still working !

Hi everyone,

As promised in the first post, here are the updated pricing tables for both Non-Professional and Professional plans. Our goal with these changes is to make pricing clearer, more consistent, and easier to compare across plans while keeping the overall structure simple and predictable.

  • Consistent annual discounts → 3 months free for Non-Professional, 2 months free for Professional plans
  • Simpler second-region pricing → Now just 40% of the base plan price

You can review the updated tables below:

If you have any questions or feedback, feel free to share your thoughts in this thread or via direct message. Your input helps us make Portfolio123 better for everyone.

Thanks Filip, what about the AI factors?

Thanks for sharing updated pricing tables.
I noticed that the price for my current plan has increased slightly after adding Europe (approximately 3.7%).

Could you clarify if there are any additional benefits planned for existing users? At present, the only benefit I see is access to one additional year of historical data. What is P123’s plan to retain users on higher-priced plans?

One possible benefit could be an option to carry forward unused API credits, particularly for higher-tier plans.

I think the amount of API credits we get at the highest tier is way too low, it's only two AI dataset dowloads for me... just to download data via API can't be a costly procedure for P123... so maybe just lower the API credits reqired for downloads accross the line?

This was a popular feature, getting 9 likes: Python program to find correlations and multicollinearity. It can only be done with downloads or the API.

For P123 classic users, @pitmaster has fully automated a popular optimization method here: Genetic algorithm to replace manual optimizaton in P123 classic - #41 by pitmaster. It can only be done with downloads or the API.

P123’s recent developments in AI/ML are impressive—but no platform could possibly keep up with the creativity of users like @pitmaster and @AlgoMan through feature requests alone.

If we want to attract and retain the most creative and advanced users, we need to ensure they have the freedom to build, experiment, and innovate using their own ideas. That’s why open tools like downloads, the API, and more flexible AI/ML infrastructure are so critical for attracting new members.

First off, great job on the new pricing structure. The move toward transparency and simplicity is a huge step forward and sets a strong foundation. It inspired me to think about how you could leverage this momentum for even faster growth.

My core observation is that you're serving two very different types of customers, and the best way to grow is to give each a tailored "try-before-you-buy" experience.

1. For your Non-Professional / Retail Audience: A Perpetual Freemium Plan. The goal here should be mass adoption. A free-forever plan with smart limitations—like a shorter backtest history or access to only predefined ranking systems —would attract a massive number of new users. It creates a natural, low-pressure funnel, encouraging them to upgrade to plans like the "Screener" or "Backtest" as their confidence and needs grow.

2. For your Professional / Institutional Audience: A Guided "Ultimate" Trial. This group isn't focused on price; they need to be convinced of the platform's power. A 14-day, full-featured trial of your "Ultimate" plan is the perfect way to do this. It lets them experience the advanced tools firsthand and justify the premium investment in your top-tier plans. A bit of guidance during the trial would ensure they discover the most valuable features.

In Summary:

A hybrid strategy seems like the perfect fit. The freemium plan acts as a wide net to capture the broad retail market, while the guided trial acts as a spear to land high-value professional clients. It’s a way to perfectly match the sales approach to the customer.

Hope this feedback is helpful!

I agree the trials need to be at least ten days. The free plan could offer 1 month of backtesting or something like that just to get a taste of the backtesting tools. By 1 month of backtesting I mean a 1 month look-back. A 1 month trial of a 1 year lookback could help too just to see if the user upgrades after trying the features a bit.

Hi everyone,

Thanks for all the great feedback, it’s really helpful as we continue refining Portfolio123. A few quick updates:

  • AI Factors: We’re continuing to optimize AI Factors and will share more details as improvements roll out.
  • Pricing & Benefits: Adding a second region now uses a 40% add-on, which explains the slight adjustment. Most of the new features released over the past year were geared toward advanced users, but we’re reviewing ways to add more value for everyone.
  • API Credits: We plan to add more value to the API, and Marco will share an update on this soon.
  • Trials & Freemium: We agree with the suggestions. The new pricing pages make it clearer what’s currently included in the free plan and we are planning to add more free features over time. We’re also preparing to launch longer trial plans for both classic models and a dedicated AI/ML trial plan to help users experience more of the platform before upgrading.

We really appreciate all the input, it’s helping us shape the roadmap and prioritize where to focus next. Keep sharing your ideas!

Sounds good. Waiting.

Hope to see : an option to carry forward unused API credits, and increase monthly API credits cap.
This may actually decrease computing costs for p123 because users will perform computing on their local machines.
